Czech renewable energy investment firm Woodburn Capital Partners will build a solar power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatts (MW) in Brdovac near Zagreb.
It will also build a power plant with a capacity of 3 MW in Stankovci in Zadar County, the company announced today.
The start of work on future plants for the production of electricity from renewable sources will be marked by the laying of foundation stones today and tomorrow, and the management is said to be actively working on concluding long-term contracts for the purchase of electricity with large corporations in the region for both projects.
The Mayor of Brdovec Municipality, Alen Prelec, welcomed the construction of a power plant based on renewable energy sources and pointed out that their business zone is attracting more and more large corporate and industrial partners such as Pliva and Pfizer, and that there are increasing expectations that the available infrastructure should also include renewable energy sources. .
The head of development of this Czech company, Mirko Meděnica, explained the philosophy on which their approach to investments in renewable energy is based and pointed out that, unlike many other players in the renewable energy market, they have adopted a vertical integration approach, from finding locations, obtaining all the necessary permits and harmonizing with regulatory requirements, until finding future signatories of PPA contracts, building power plants and managing their operations.
The Czech company Woodburn has already implemented five similar projects, and to date has invested more than 75 million euros in biomass and solar energy projects. Its goal is to become a leading operator in the field of renewable energy, in the regions of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in Southern Europe, and it is currently considering business opportunities in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports Hina.
Woodburn chief financial officer Chris Kotnauer says it’s crucial that governments support the renewable energy sector.
