Unit 6 of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Restarts

Electricity generation at Bulgaria’s Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant has resumed with the successful synchronization of Unit 6 to the national grid on December 24 at 11:22 AM. Following a scheduled maintenance period, the operator is set to gradually increase output in alignment with established operational protocols.

Maintenance and Safety Inspections Completed

The restart of Unit 6 followed rigorous technical verifications, laboratory analyses, and assessments by independent inspection bodies. Notably, this maintenance involved the removal and replacement of faulty protective membrane components within the turbine’s steam reheater system. These issues were located in the conventional section of the unit rather than its nuclear components.

Status of Other Units at Kozloduy

The resumption of operations for Unit 6 comes as good news for Bulgaria’s energy sector, particularly as Unit 5 continues its regular operation without any interruptions. The reliable functioning of these units is crucial for maintaining electricity supply amid growing demand during winter months.

This development underscores Bulgaria’s commitment to ensuring safety and efficiency in nuclear power generation while addressing necessary infrastructure upgrades. With both units operational, Kozloduy plays a vital role in stabilizing national electricity production levels and supporting broader regional energy security efforts.
