Bulgaria’s Azerbaijani gas imports see minor increase in costs amid volume decline

Bulgaria’s expenditure on importing gas from Azerbaijan reached 24.3 million euros in July 2024, a modest increase from 23.9 million euros in July 2023, according to Eurostat. This reflects a year-on-year rise of nearly 1.7 percent in gas import costs. For the first seven months of 2024, Bulgaria’s total spending on Azerbaijani gas was 165.5 million euros, marking a 15.6 percent decrease compared to the 196 million euros spent during the same period in 2023.

In terms of volume, Azerbaijan supplied Bulgaria with 77.2 million cubic meters of gas in July 2024, slightly down from 77.3 million cubic meters in July 2023, indicating a minimal drop of 0.13 percent. From January to July 2024, Bulgaria imported a total of 530 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan, representing a 0.65 percent decrease from the 533.5 million cubic meters imported during the same timeframe in 2023.
