United Group has officially commissioned its second solar power plant in Bulgaria—an 8 MW facility located near the village of Barakovo in the Kocherinovo municipality. This development represents another milestone in the company’s ongoing expansion of clean energy infrastructure across southeastern Europe.
The plant features 11,466 bifacial solar panels, each with a capacity of 700 watts, and is projected to produce around 12 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually. By replacing fossil fuel-based generation, the facility is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4,700 tons per year.
United Group also plans to install a battery storage system at the site later this autumn to enhance energy dispatch efficiency and ensure continuous availability of electricity. The Barakovo plant is part of a broader €120 million investment in Bulgaria, which includes two more solar power plants and a wind energy project.
Starting in 2027, these renewable energy assets will fully meet United Group’s electricity demand in Bulgaria and provide 65% of its total energy consumption across the region. Supported by the Bulgarian Government and the European Union as a strategic initiative for grid stability, the Barakovo solar plant contributes to United Group’s goal of achieving zero emissions by 2040.
