Bulgaria: Sunterra RE expands battery storage with 1 GWh deal

Supported byClarion Energy

Sunterra RE has signed an agreement with Sungrow Power Supply Co. to deliver 1 GWh of battery energy storage capacity to three of its largest solar power facilities in Bulgaria. The move aims to enhance system-level flexibility, resilience, and energy efficiency.

Sungrow will supply its MV-Power Titan 2.0 industrial storage system, which features LFP battery cells and a string-based energy conversion architecture as part of its core technology.

This deal marks the second phase of Sunterra RE’s storage expansion strategy, boosting its total storage capacity from 300 MWh to over 1 GWh. The additional capacity is expected to improve the alignment of solar production with peak demand periods, assist in network balancing, reduce price volatility for consumers, and strengthen overall energy system security.

Founded in 2023, Sunterra RE operates its own renewable energy portfolio, with a focus on solar, battery storage, onshore wind, and green hydrogen. Its key operational assets include a 208 MW solar plant in Kaloyanovo and a 201 MW facility in Galabovo.
