According to the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in May 2025 fell by 21.6% compared to April, totaling 2,585 GWh. Electricity consumption also declined on a monthly basis, dropping by 10.3% to 2,408 GWh.
Natural gas consumption in May decreased by 17.8%, amounting to 180 million cubic meters, while domestic gas production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.
On a year-over-year basis, electricity production in May 2025 increased slightly by 0.9%, whereas electricity consumption dropped by 0.9%. Natural gas consumption fell by 11.8% compared to May 2024.
A significant increase in petroleum product output was recorded in May, following the completion of scheduled maintenance on production facilities in April. As a result, production levels have returned to normal. Unleaded petrol consumption surged by 33.9% to 75,000 tons, while LPG consumption rose by 14.3% to 40,000 tons.
In contrast, production of solid fuels declined by 29.5% to 668,000 tons, while consumption of solid fuels also dropped by 29.6%, totaling 699,000 tons.
