Ten international companies submitted binding bids in response to the tender issued by Bulgaria’s state gas supplier, Bulgargaz, for liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to the Alexandroupoli terminal in Greece for January and February 2025. The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy announced that the UK-based company BPGas Marketing Limited has been selected to supply LNG for January 2025, while US-based Venture Global Commodities, a leading LNG producer, will provide LNG for February 2025.
Caretaker Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov emphasized that, as a shareholder in the Alexandroupoli terminal, Bulgaria benefits from diversified LNG supplies, strengthening its energy security with partners in both the United States and Europe. The selection of these two major international suppliers highlights the growing interest in Bulgaria’s gas market, as well as in the broader southeastern European region.
This announcement marks the final phase of the tender process initiated by Bulgargaz in late August 2024, which aimed to secure a total of five LNG shipments, equivalent to 5,000,000 MWh, within Bulgaria’s reserved capacity at the Alexandroupoli terminal. The earlier stages of the tender secured LNG supplies for the months of October, November, and December 2024, while this phase addresses deliveries for early 2025.
The successful completion of all three tenders ensures secure and competitively priced natural gas supplies for Bulgaria’s residential and industrial consumers during the upcoming winter season.
