Bulgaria reports slight decline in electricity output and fuel production in February 2025

According to the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in February 2025 declined slightly by 0.2% compared to January, totaling 4,215 GWh. Electricity consumption also dropped on a monthly basis by 2.4%, amounting to 3,602 GWh. However, when compared to February 2024, both production and consumption saw strong year-on-year growth—rising by 32.3% and 21.3%, respectively.

Natural gas consumption in February increased by 3% on a monthly basis, reaching 308 million cubic meters, while production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters. Compared to the same month last year, gas consumption surged by 23.7%.

In the oil sector, unleaded petrol production dropped by 10.7% to 117,000 tons, despite a significant 21.7% increase in consumption, which reached 56,000 tons. Diesel production also fell, down 11.9% to 236,000 tons, with consumption slightly decreasing by 2.1% to the same level—236,000 tons.

Production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rose sharply by 60% to 8,000 tons, while its consumption remained unchanged at 38,000 tons.

Solid fuels saw declines as well. Production fell by 2.8%, amounting to 2.59 million tons, while consumption decreased by 2.4%, totaling 2.632 million tons.
