According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 5 June 2022 has increased by 16.75 % compared to 2021 and reached 23.23 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 1.45 % reaching a total of 17.6 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 5.64 TWh GWh so far in 2022, 120.7 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 19.6 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 26.1 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 20.57 % to 696.6 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 16.93 % to 1,004.3 GWh.
