According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 18 September 2022 has increased by 13.75 % compared to 2021 and reached 37.21 TWh.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased in the same period, by 0.13 % reaching a total of 27.37 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 9.84 TWh so far in 2022, 85.6 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 31.35 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 19.4 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 25.56 % to 1,162.6 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 14.73 % to 1,670.3 GWh.
