The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the Bulgarian transmission network increased by 23.7% in the period from January 1 to April 10, 2022, compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the ESO Power System Operator. The share of RES in the distribution network also increased, by 21.1%.
In the same period, Bulgaria’s electricity production grew by 20.2% year-on-year to 16.22m MWh. Electricity consumption increased by 2.35%, to 12.36 million MWh.
The balance of exports and imports increased by 171.55%. However, it has been gradually decreasing since the end of January, the data show.
Base power plants increased their share in total electricity production by 29.3% compared to the previous year. In the period from January 1 to April 10, 2022, they produced 13.9 million MWh, compared to 10.78 million MWh a year earlier.
The downward trend in electricity production in hydropower plants continued, by 33.34% on an annual basis.
