Bulgaria is interested in joining as a co-shareholder in the initiative to create a “green” corridor for the transfer of energy from Azerbaijan to Europe, stated acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev at the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov in Berlin.
Glavchev has confirmed our country’s support for the initiative, in which, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Romania also participate. It is yet to be specified which state company will participate in it from the Bulgarian side.
In the course of the conversation, the “Vertical Gas Corridor” was also discussed, which confirmed Bulgaria on the gas map. The acting prime minister has indicated that the project will develop within the framework of the strategic declaration that was signed between the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to increase the quantities of natural gas that should reach the European markets from 2027. This will replace Russian gas supplies.
The subject of the upcoming meeting of the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in Baku at the beginning of July was also raised. In the last five years, the commission has not met, and the upcoming meeting is expected to further activate bilateral cooperation.
