In the period between 1 January and 31 January 2021 production of electricity in Bulgaria has increased by 5.01 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 4.15 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption dropped in the same period, by 4.11 % reaching a total of 3.87 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 275.8 GWh so far in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 3.32 TWh of electricity in 2021, which is 5.57 % less than in 2020. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 2.3 % to 117.5 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 11.02 % to 143.4 GWh.
