According to data from the Bulgarian transmission system operator ESO, electricity production in Bulgaria in the period from January 1 to November 20, 2022 increased by 8.1% compared to last year, reaching 44.48 TWh.
On the other hand, electricity consumption in Bulgaria decreased by 1.7% in the same period, to 33.31 TWh. The surplus of electricity so far in 2022 amounted to 11.18 TWh, which is 53.7% more than in the same period last year, according to the ESO report.
Basic power plants (coal-fired thermal power plants and nuclear power plants) produced a total of 37.63 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 11.6% more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network increased by 26.7%, to 1,412.8 GWh, while the share of RES in the country’s distribution network increased by 15.8%, to 2,005.7 GWh.
