Bulgaria: IBEX sees increased electricity trading volume in December 2024

In December 2024, the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) saw a total of 2,687,408.8 MWh of electricity traded on the day-ahead market, marking a 13.5% increase compared to the previous month. The average daily traded volume for the month was 86,690.3 MWh. When compared to the same month in the previous year, the traded volume in December 2024 was up by 0.4%.

The average baseload price on the day-ahead market in December was 140.61 euros/MWh, which represents a 16.2% decrease from November’s price of 167.75 euros/MWh. Similarly, the average peak price dropped by 19.9%, settling at 167.52 euros/MWh. The number of registered participants on the IBEX day-ahead market reached 127, an increase of three compared to the previous month.

On the intraday continuous market, a record 367,836.3 MWh of electricity was traded, reflecting an 11.4% increase. The average weighted price for intraday trades was 154.05 euros/MWh, which is 17.8% lower than the previous month.
