Bulgaria: IBEX day-ahead market sees 3.9% drop in traded volume, prices surge by over 20% in September 2025

In September 2025, a total of 2,410,532.9 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX), marking a 3.9% decrease compared to August. The average daily traded volume reached 80,351.1 MWh. However, compared to the same month in 2024, the traded volume was 1.7% higher.

The average baseload price on the day-ahead market stood at 93.75 euros per MWh in September, a 23.6% increase from August’s 75.83 euros per MWh. The average peak price rose even more sharply, reaching 82.01 euros per MWh—up by 65.4%.

IBEX recorded a total of 142 active participants on the day-ahead market, three more than in the previous month.

On the intraday continuous market, 453,396.3 MWh of electricity was traded in September, representing a 3.6% monthly increase. The average weighted price on this market reached 90.49 euros per MWh, up by 44.6% compared to August.
