Bulgarian Ministry of Energy informed that the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker carrying US delivery for Bulgaria has arrived.
Although the Ministry did not provide any details regarding delivered quantity nor the point of delivery, it is most likely that US LNG was delivered to Greek Reythoussa terminal near Athens and will be delivered to Bulgaria via the gas connection near Petrich.
After his visit to the United States in mid-May, Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov confirmed that Bulgaria will receive two shiploads of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US in June. On 27 April, Russia decided to halt gas supply to the country.
Bulgaria had bought two LNG cargoes of about 200 million cubic meters of gas in total, which are expected to arrive on 8 and 23 June. Although it was not officially confirmed, Cheniere is the supplier of agreed two LNG cargoes for Bulgaria. Cheniere is the company with which Bulgaria has an old long-term contract for the supply of liquefied natural gas but it has not yet been activated. It should enter into force after the commissioning of Greek LNG terminal inAlexandroupoli, in which Bulgaria has 20 % stake.
