According to data from Bulgaria’s electricity transmission system operator ESO, electricity production in the country reached 10.24 TWh between 1 January and 16 March 2025, marking a 20.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Electricity consumption also rose, increasing by 8.77% to a total of 9.71 TWh. As a result, Bulgaria recorded net electricity exports of 0.53 TWh during this period.
Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear facilities, generated 8.47 TWh—21.3% more than in the previous year. Meanwhile, electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network grew by 31.36%, reaching 649.8 GWh, while RES output in the distribution network increased by 31.55% to 647.1 GWh.
