Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by an annual 20.9% to 38,288 GWh between January 1 and December 17, according to the data published by Electricity System Operator (ESO).
In the same period, electric consumption went down 4.2% to 34,995 GWh, ESO said in a weekly data release.
The country’s power trade surplus plunged 72.3% year-on-year to 3,293 GWh in the review period.
The volume of renewable energy in the transmission network jumped by 59.04% to some 2,426 GWh. Solar power soared by an annual 144.1% to roughly 1,553 GWh, whereas wind power added 4.43% to some 775 GWh.
The volume of renewable energy in the distribution system increased by 12.8% to 2,394 GWh. The output of hydropower plants fell by 18.5% year-on-year to 3,009 GWh in the same period.
