Electricity production in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 19 November has decreased by 21% compared to 2022, to 34.82 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
Electricity consumption decreased in the same period by 5% to 31.6 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 3.3 TWh in 2023, 71% less than in 2022.
Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced 27.5 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 27% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 62% to 2,282.5 GWh, while the RES share in distribution network increased by 13% to 2,256 GWh.
