Electricity production in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 15 October has decreased by 22% compared to same period in 2022, to 31.73 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
In the same period, electricity consumption decreased by 5% reaching 28.3 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 3.43 TWh in 2023, 67% less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced 25TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 26% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 59% to 2,038 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 11% to 2,034 GWh.
