Electricity generation in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 17 September has decreased by 22% compared to the same period in 2022, to 28.96 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
In the same period, electricity consumption decreased by 5% to 25.9 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 3.05 TWh in 2023, 69% less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) will produce a total of 22.8 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 22% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 55% to 1,794 GWh, while the RES share in the distribution network increased by 9% to 1,818 GWh.
