According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 19 June 2022 has increased by 17.81 % compared to 2021 and reached 25.15 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 1.46 % reaching a total of 18.86 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 6.29 TWh so far in 2022, 128.1 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 21.17 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 27.1 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 20.74 % to 755.1 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 16.58 % to 1,085.3 GWh.
