Electricity production in Bulgaria in the first four months of 2023 has decreased by 19% year-on-year, reaching 15.25 TWh. Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased by 5% to 13.5 TWh.
Surplus electricity amounted to 1.6 TWh in the first four months, 64% less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced 12.9 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 20% less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the transmission network rose by 14% to 635.3 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 4% to 744.7 GWh.
