According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 5 March 2023 has decreased by 12.85 % compared to 2022 and reached 9.15 TWh.
Bulgaria’s electricity consumption also decreased in 2023, by 3 % reaching a total of 7.88 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 1.27 TWh in 2023, 46.6 % less than in 2022. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 7.95 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is 12.4 % less than in 2022.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 13.13 % to 312.3 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 2.19 % to 364.8 GWh.
