Electricity exports in Bulgaria decreased by 66 % in 2023, compared to last year’s period, according to data published by electricity transmission system operator ESO.
At the same time, electricity consumption in Bulgaria has decreased by 5% in 2023. Electricity generation has fallen by 20%, while the production at the Maritsa East complex dropped by 39%.
Bulgaria is still a net exporter of electricity, but exported volumes are much smaller than last year. Electricity exports amounted to 1.6 TWh in 2023, compared to 4.7 TWh in the same period last yea.
