In the period between 1 January and 5 October 2020, production of electricity in Bulgaria has decreased by 8.19 % compared to the same period in 2019 and reached 30.59 TWh, according to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
Bulgaria’s electricity consumption dropped as well in the same period, by 3.9 % reaching a total of 27.64 TWh. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced 25.3 TWh of electricity so far in 2020, which is 10.32 % less than in 2019. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 12.92 % to 1,046.9 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 7.65 % to 1,573.3 GWh.
