According to data published by Bulgaria’s electricity transmission system operator ESO, the country’s electricity production between 1 January and 19 October 2025 reached 32.34 TWh, marking a 7.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Electricity consumption also rose by 6.33 percent, totaling 30.14 TWh, resulting in net exports of around 2.2 TWh for the period.

Baseload power plants — primarily coal and nuclear facilities — generated a combined 23.22 TWh of electricity, 6 percent more than in 2024. Meanwhile, renewable energy sources (RES) continued to expand their contribution. Power generated from RES in the transmission network grew by 18.73 percent to 3,344.5 GWh, while RES output within the distribution network increased by 21.78 percent to 3,383.5 GWh.
