Electricity production in Bulgaria reached 24.24 TWh between 1 January and 3 August 2025, marking a 9.74 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO.
Electricity consumption also grew, rising by 5.74 percent to 22.76 TWh. As a result, the country recorded net electricity exports of 1.48 TWh during this period.
Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear facilities, produced a total of 17.56 TWh, representing a 10.9 percent year-on-year increase.
The share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources (RES) also saw notable growth. In the transmission network, RES output rose by 21.06 percent to 2,442.7 GWh, while RES generation in the distribution network increased by 25.49 percent to 2,485 GWh.
