Unit 5 of nuclear power plant Kozloduy has successfully reconnected to the national electricity network after it has completed the planned annual maintenance.
The statement from the company said that during the outage, which started on 17 April, the reactor of unit 5 was reloaded with fresh nuclear fuel and the planned repair and maintenance operations on the plant’s systems and equipment were carried out.
NPP Kozloduy produced a total of 5,688 GWh of electricity in the first four months of the year. Originally, NPP Kozloduy had six reactors, but four older 440 MW reactors were shut down in 2007 due to nuclear safety concern of the European Union. The plant currently operates two Soviet-built 1,000 MW reactors, unit 5 and unit 6 which were commissioned in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
