AES Galabovo, Bulgaria’s coal-fired thermal power plant, recorded its highest-ever electricity production in February 2025, marking a new milestone since the facility began operations. During the coldest days of the month, the plant generated 343,459 MWh of electricity, reinforcing its critical role in the country’s energy sector.
The electricity produced by AES Galabovo accounted for over 9% of Bulgaria’s total consumption during that period, highlighting its significance in maintaining national energy security. According to Ivan Tsankov, CEO of AES Bulgaria, the plant remained a reliable power source even in extreme winter conditions, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers across the country.
Beyond electricity generation, TPP AES Galabovo plays an essential role in dispatch services, contributing to the stability of Bulgaria’s energy system. Its high operational flexibility allows it to respond effectively to fluctuations in demand, further strengthening the resilience of the national grid.
