Bosnia and Herzegovina: Ulog hydropower plant faces issues during reservoir filling test phase

The Ulog hydropower plant near Kalinovik has entered the reservoir filling test phase, with a planned capacity of six million cubic meters. However, environmental organizations have reported issues at one-fifth of that capacity, including cracks and water leakage, which have raised concerns about potential larger problems.

In response, the investor, EFT Group, has paused the filling process, though the issues remain unresolved. Several environmental groups have appealed to institutions at all levels to address these concerns seriously.

Preparatory work for the plant began in 2011 but was interrupted for several years due to frequent landslides. Construction resumed in 2020. EFT Group holds a 30-year concession for the 35 MW HPP Ulog.
