Small-scale facilities for the production of electricity from renewable sources, with an installed capacity of up to 500 kW, will have the right to a guaranteed purchase price of electricity, while this right will be abolished for large producers who will sell electricity directly on the market, according to the Draft Law on Renewable Energy Sources.

The draft law will be discussed by the deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska (RS) at the session scheduled for the end of September .

The new law separated the type of incentives for small and large plants for the production of electricity. Small plants, with an installed capacity of up to 500 kW, have the possibility of incentives in the form of mandatory purchase at a guaranteed purchase price or a premium for electricity sold on the market or used for their own needs. In contrast, large plants have the obligation to sell electricity independently on the market with the possibility of receiving incentives in the form of a premium that is determined in the auction procedure, which will be held every two years.

Namely, the current law allows producers of electricity from renewable energy sources with an installed capacity of up to 10 MW to be entitled to a guaranteed purchase price of electricity for a period of 15 years, while according to the new draft law only small-scale facilities of installed capacity of up to 150 will have that privilege (500 kW biomass and biogas and rooftop solar power plants).
