Bosnia and Herzegovina: Modrica oil refinery faces losses, accumulated deficit exceeds 58 million euros

Modrica oil refinery concluded 2024 with a loss of approximately 1.3 million euros, adding to its ongoing financial struggles. As a result, the refinery’s total accumulated losses now exceed 58 million euros.

The refinery’s revenue for 2024 remained steady at 5.5 million euros, mirroring the figures from 2023. However, expenses rose by around 500,000 euros, reaching 6.9 million euros. While fuel and material costs held steady, employee salaries and benefits saw an increase of 255,000 euros. Additionally, depreciation and provisioning costs also experienced similar growth.

The refinery’s workforce remained unchanged at 182 employees by the close of 2024.

Modrica oil refinery, along with the Bosanski Brod refinery and Nestro Petrol in Banja Luka, is part of the Optima Group, which is majority-owned by NefteGazInkor, a subsidiary of the Russian company Zarubezhneft.
