Interenergo, an energy company based in Ljubljana, which is part of the Austrian Kellag group, bought the Ivan Sedlo wind farm project southwest of Sarajevo. Estimated at 40.6 million euros, the 25 megawatt wind farm should meet the demand of more than 26,000 households when it is built.

he five turbines will have a total rated capacity of 25 MW, and are expected to produce 65.7 gigawatt hours of electricity per year. The wind farm is expected to be connected to the grid in 2025, Interenerg said. The contract for the purchase of the project was signed at the end of October.

This is Interenerg’s first wind energy project in the country and the third wind farm project in its portfolio of renewable energy projects. The company built a wind farm in Croatia and is building one in North Macedonia.

The wind farm in the Ivan Sedla area will increase the rated power of all Interenerg’s renewable energy sources in Bosnia and Herzegovina to 43 MW. These are mostly small hydropower plants. Last year, the company also acquired a 60 percent stake in Vetroelektrane ÄŒardakov Travnik, a company that will build a 50 MW wind farm in the country.

In Interenerg, they estimate that Bosnia and Herzegovina, which mainly depended on coal as a source of energy, is approaching a turning point when half of its electricity will be produced from renewable sources.

The company, which is present mainly in Slovenia and the region of the former Yugoslavia, says that by developing renewable energy projects in SE Europe, it is contributing to the acceleration of the region’s green transition, even though most of the region is not yet part of the EU and its environmental protection policy, SEEBIZ reports.
