Ministry of Construction, Spatial Planning and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska (RS) said that it has received a request by “Hidroelektrane Bistrica”, a subsidiary of state-owned power utility ERS, to conduct an environmental impact assessment (EIA) study for the three planned hydropower plants on the Bistrica river near Foca.
In December 2019, RS Government signed an agreement worth 100 million euros with Chinese company AVIC for the construction of three hydropower plants on the Bistrica river with combined installed capacity of 34.1 MW.
In 2008, ERS sold 90 % stake in HPP Bistrica project to Kaldera Company for some 3.4 million euros, and bought it back in 2019 for 10.6 million euros.
