Bosnia and Herzegovina: Electricity production in FBiH slightly up in May 2025

Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) reached 512 GWh in May 2025, marking a slight increase of 0.6% compared to 509 GWh in May 2024.

Hydropower plants contributed 29.1% to the total gross electricity production, thermal power plants accounted for 61.13%, and wind farms made up 9.77%.

Net electricity production in May 2025 totaled 459 GWh, with hydropower generating 132 GWh, thermal power plants producing 277 GWh, and wind farms supplying 50 GWh.

Electricity imports increased to 142 GWh in May 2025, up from 107 GWh in the same month last year. Meanwhile, exports rose to 117 GWh from 77 GWh in May 2024.

In terms of coal production, brown coal output in May 2025 was 297,215 tons, a decrease of 2.2% from 303,821 tons in May 2024. Lignite production increased by 17.3%, reaching 131,316 tons compared to 111,966 tons in May 2024. Coke production also rose by 4.6%, totaling 35,448 tons versus 33,879 tons a year earlier.
