The Albanian Government has approved a proposal from the state-owned Power Corporation (KESH) to construct an 8.25 MW solar power plant at the Vau i Dejes hydropower site. The project is set to be completed within 36 months and will have a lifespan of 49 years, with an expected annual electricity generation of 11,213 MWh.

In August 2023, KESH secured an €8.3 million contract with a consortium led by local company Balili Konstruksion and renewables developer Vega Solar for the construction. This initiative is part of KESH’s strategy to diversify its energy portfolio, which has been heavily reliant on hydropower. Notably, in February 2022, KESH began energy production at a 5.14 MW floating solar power plant at the Qyrsaqi dam in the same region.
