Albanian construction company X One has submitted a request to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy for approval to build a new photovoltaic (PV) plant with an installed capacity of 54 MW, local media reported on January 29. The proposed solar power plant, located in a village within the municipality of Polican in south-central Albania, will not receive state support measures and will instead sell its energy on the free market, according to Albanian Daily News.
Currently, Albania generates the majority of its electricity from hydropower plants, with the largest share coming from three plants situated along the Drin River in the northern part of the country. The addition of this solar plant marks a step forward in diversifying Albania’s energy mix, shifting towards renewable sources beyond hydropower.
