Norwegian floating solar developer Ocean Sun said that the project’s investor Statkraft has launched the final stage of the project for the construction of floating solar power plant located on the HPP Banja reservoir in southern Albania.
Ocean Sun has commissioned the first 500 kW of the planned 2 MW capacity in June last year. However, one week after the commissioning, the company said that that is working on retrieving the floating ring with membrane and two connected barges, which were damaged and partly submerged. The first stage of the project resumed operation in April this year.
Ocean Sun said that further three floating units with 500 kW capacity each should be installed at the reservoir, without providing any info on the project’s completion date.
In December 2018, Statkraft Renewables Albania filed a request to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for a construction permit for a floating solar park, which was later obtained. After the installation of solar panels on the Banja reservoir, the company will consider similar plant at the Moglice reservoir.
