In the first quarter of 2021, the first auction for the construction of wind farms will be held, which will contribute to the further diversification of the country’s energy resources, announced the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
The auction will enable bidders to propose projects with a minimum capacity of 30 MW and a maximum capacity of 75 MW, from which the Ministry will select those to support with power purchase agreements (PPA), with a total of 130 MW.
The statement from the Ministry that this notice prior to the launch of the auction will help investors to identify the area where they will build the wind farms, in order to use all the time available from the announcement of the auction until the opening of bids, to carry out the necessary measurements in the area, as these measurements usually require 12-15 months.
The Ministry also provided the relevant study, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The study recommends potential areas with wind energy and marks all protected areas where wind farms cannot be located.
