Albania’s energy regulator ERE has issued a 30-year electricity-generation license to Spitalla Solar, the project company established by French renewable-energy developer Voltalia. With this approval, Voltalia is cleared to operate its planned 90 MW solar power plant near the coastal city of Durrës — the company’s second major solar development in Albania.
The license grants the right to generate electricity from the new facility for the next three decades. Construction at the Spitalla site began late last year, and the plant is scheduled to enter operation in the second half of 2027.
Voltalia secured the Spitalla project through a competitive tender in 2021, supported by financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The company already operates the 140 MW Karavasta solar power plant near Fier, which was commissioned in December 2023.
