The board of Albania’s Energy Regulatory Agency, ERE, approved a 13.3% increase in electricity transmission tariffs on Wednesday, from 0.75 lek to 0.85 lek (from 0.006 to 0.007 euros) per kWh.
This increase came after the transmission system operator OST requested a change in the tariff due to the growth of the company’s operating costs, ie a twofold increase in expenses to cover network losses as a result of the energy crisis.
ERE states that the new tariff will be valid from May 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024, according to a three-year plan.
However, the energy regulator states that it is possible to revise the tariff on an annual basis if market conditions change significantly.
The transmission system operator requested a higher tariff than approved. According to the OST calculation, missing revenues for the period 2021-2022. amount to 28.55 million euros, which means that the average transmission tariff should be 1.47 leks (0.12 euros) per kWh.
According to the OST, the required revenues of the operator carry the amount of 34.4 billion leks (284 million euros) for the period 2022-2024.
