Bulgaria sees rise in electricity production and renewables in 2025

According to data released by the Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator (ESO), electricity production in Bulgaria between January 1 and November 30, 2025, increased by 6.41% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 36.36 TWh.

During the same period, electricity consumption in the country also grew, rising by 5.17% to a total of 34.76 TWh. As a result, net electricity exports in 2025 amounted to 1.59 TWh.

Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear facilities, generated a total of 26.1 TWh, marking a 3.9% increase over 2024.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 18.21%, reaching 3,721.1 GWh, while the RES share in the distribution network increased by 19.72%, totaling 3,721.5 GWh.
