Data published by the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) shows that electricity production in the third quarter of 2025 reached 1,075 GWh, a decline of 31.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024, when output totaled 1,564 GWh.
Despite the drop in domestic generation, Albania increased its electricity exports. Outbound flows rose by 10.8 percent year-on-year to 312 GWh in the July–September period, while electricity imports surged by 65.3 percent to 1,260 GWh, reflecting the need to compensate for reduced hydropower output.
Hydropower plants remained the dominant source of electricity, providing 71 percent of total generation. State-owned hydropower plants produced 586 GWh, while privately owned facilities generated 312 GWh during the quarter.
Electricity consumption in Q3 2025 stood at 1,700 GWh, roughly unchanged compared with the same period last year. Network losses continued their downward trend, falling to 323 GWh, compared to 344 GWh recorded in the third quarter of 2024.
