According to CEO Bogdan Badea, Hidroelectrica intends to introduce storage facilities at each of its run-of-river hydropower plants, allowing surplus electricity to be transferred to evening consumption periods.
Badea noted that the energy market experiences 7–8 daily intervals with extremely low or even negative prices, while other periods see excessively high prices. The main challenge is to move surplus electricity from low-price hours to evening peaks, and storage technology is viewed as the most effective solution. Unlike large reservoirs, smaller river-based hydropower plants cannot retain water for extended periods, making storage systems essential for these facilities.
He also emphasized that the company has already taken steps to prepare for the upcoming winter season despite unfavorable hydrological conditions. Hidroelectrica remains committed to stabilizing the national energy system by meeting both demand peaks and balancing requirements, continuing its long-standing role in ensuring reliable electricity supply.
