Representatives of Turkish energy company BGN met with Bulgarian officials to discuss opportunities for expanding energy cooperation and strengthening Bulgaria’s position as a key gas transit hub in the region.
During the talks, Bulgaria emphasized its goal of fully utilizing its gas transport infrastructure to serve both the European Union and the wider Balkan market. BGN, active in the development of energy infrastructure and in the production and trade of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuels, views Bulgaria as a strategic gateway for expanding exports to the EU, particularly in LNG.
The discussions highlighted the importance of the Solidarity Ring initiative, launched in 2023, which aims to modernize and coordinate existing gas pipelines among participating countries. Several Central and Eastern European states have already expressed interest in securing natural gas supplies through Bulgaria under this framework.
Officials expressed confidence that Bulgarian institutions will continue working to boost LNG imports and reinforce the country’s reputation as a reliable energy transit partner. BGN representatives confirmed their readiness to cooperate on projects related to transport and energy interconnection, signaling mutual interest in advancing regional infrastructure integration.
