Serbian oil company NIS has confirmed that it submitted a new request to the U.S. Treasury Department for a special license to delay the full implementation of sanctions, allowing the company to continue operations.
In addition, NIS filed a separate application to be removed from the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list, a process described as lengthy and complex. The company’s initial request for removal was submitted on 14 March.
The United States imposed sanctions on NIS in January due to the company’s Russian ownership. While the sanctions were initially scheduled to take effect earlier, their enforcement has been postponed six times, most recently until 1 October. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić later announced a further extension, with sanctions now expected to come into effect on 8 or 9 October.
