According to data published by the Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, electricity production in Bulgaria from 1 January to 14 September 2025 increased by 7.7% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 28.71 TWh. During the same period, electricity consumption rose by 5.4%, totaling 26.72 TWh. As a result, net electricity exports reached 1.99 TWh in 2025.
Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear, generated a total of 20.47 TWh in 2025, marking a 6.5% increase compared to 2024. The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network grew by 20.99% to 3,003.4 GWh, while the RES share in the country’s distribution network rose by 25.39% to 3,041.3 GWh.
