Romania: Energy Vault partners with Astor Enerji to deploy 2 GWh of battery storage for solar projects

Supported byClarion Energy

Swiss energy storage company Energy Vault has signed an agreement to provide up to 2 GWh of battery capacity for solar projects in Romania owned by Turkish firm Astor Enerji. The partnership combines Energy Vault’s large-scale storage expertise with Astor’s recent entry into the Romanian renewable energy market.

Astor Enerji acquired four solar projects in Romania, totaling 279 MW, through its subsidiary Astor RO Energy in April, pending regulatory approval. Under the new agreement, these sites will be equipped with battery energy storage systems capable of storing up to 2 GWh, ensuring the solar generation is supported by flexible and reliable storage connected to the grid.

In return, Astor Enerji will supply transformers and high-voltage equipment for Energy Vault’s global storage portfolio, which includes over 1 GW of planned battery projects across the United States, Australia, and Europe. This collaboration leverages Astor’s equipment manufacturing capabilities alongside Energy Vault’s technology deployment.

Astor Enerji provides power transformers, distribution transformers, and switching equipment across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the US. The partnership with Energy Vault is expected to strengthen the supply chain and accelerate storage deployment, supporting growing electricity demand driven by AI-powered data centers and the rapid expansion of renewable energy.
